Peru is among the 20 most water-rich countries in the world; however, between 7 and 8 million Peruvians still do not have access to water,
Therefore, together with our partner Nature's Pride, we are implementing a pilot program to install water filters, which aims to ensure that 20 families have access to drinking water. In this way, they will be able to implement efficient personal hygiene routines and carry out proper food washing to reduce the rate of children with parasites in their bodies.
As a first step, the families that will participate in this program were selected, and the results of the last parasitological test that we took from our students at the beginning of the school year were used as an indicator, giving priority to those who presented a positive diagnosis and also to those who presented nutritional diseases such as anemia and malnutrition.
Next, water samples were taken from each home. These samples were processed by a certified laboratory in the city of Cusco to have evidence of the water conditions before the implementation of the filters.
We are now installing water filters in the selected households. Then we will conduct training on the proper use of the filters and the implementation of hygiene routines for the beneficiary families.
